Andrew's story

Andrew* was trapped in a cycle of stress and absenteeism that made his working life increasingly untenable.

His employers at the East End's Mildmay hospital, a rehabilitative unit for people with HIV and AIDS, contacted the nearby Barts Health and Wellness Centre for independent support and advice.

"Occupational Health at Barts helped me recognise and accept that sometimes we just need a little bit of help to sort things out. Barts gave me suggestions for ways to cope, resulting in me taking control of my options and getting counselling.

It was so effective that I now have the desire to get trained to handle the more behaviourally challenged patients that come to the ward."

What Barts Health and Wellness Centre delivers for Mildmay UK

Mildmay has an annual contract for services covering its 90 staff for all the occupational health services offered at the centre.  Contracts of this type are more beneficial to organisations of over 50 people as it means that all managers and staff are covered for all services and can access these as and when required. Services used on a regular basis include sickness absence referrals and advice, needlestick injury advice and follow-up and workplace vaccinations.
